Re: DVM Building Innovations

In March, 2006, our beach house in Kitty Hawk burned down.  While waiting for the insurance company to work things out we began the long, arduous task of preparing to demolish the totally destroyed house and begin selecting a contractor to rebuild the house that we had planned to retire to.  Needless to say this was not easy to do from western Colorado.  We spent weeks talking to builders and friends who had recommendations and set up appointments for the time we could finally make it to Kitty Hawk in May.  We had narrowed the list down to three builders and two designers whom we thought we could work with.

In an extremely busy seven days we were told by these groups what they thought we should build.  We had rough plans in hand but were told “oh, you don’t want that type of house” and various other excuses why we should build the usual beach house.  One design even had the entrance to the pantry through the powder room!  They were not listening to us.

We were due to leave on Saturday and on Friday our property manager suggested we call a neighbor of hers who might be interested in building our house.  Thus began an extremely satisfying relationship with DVM.  We were to meet Trevor Saturday morning but we “snuck” out Friday to his own home that he was redoing with a lot of similar ideas.  We felt so reassured when we met Trevor.  He was all for our ideas and actually liked our design!  He was also energetic, honest and interested.  We went to Corolla on Saturday to see two of their houses under construction and we couldn’t believe how they had incorporated many things into these homes that we were thinking about putting in ours.  Needless to say, we agreed to work with DVM on the spot.

Our next step was to work with John on the design and the fun really began!  We gave him our ideas and in a very short time we had exceptional renderings.  We told him what we were thinking and he went to our lot and worked up what was best for the lot.  We worked back and forth via email, phone and architectural programs, ending up with an unbelievable design.  He incorporated our love of the Old Nags Head style and the neighboring Life Saving Station.  Working with us every step of the way, he came up with a house beyond our wildest imaginations.  Our property manager even said it was far and away the best looking house on the street.  And, you can access the pantry without going through the powder room!  I cannot say enough about DVM.  They are competent, professional, friendly and really care about the customer.  We will recommend them highly to everyone.
